Read comparisonHow ScreenshotRun stacks up against other screenshot tools
Picking a screenshot API means weighing price, features, and how much infrastructure you want to manage yourself. We built these comparisons so you can see exactly where ScreenshotRun fits — whether you're evaluating hosted services like ScreenshotOne and Urlbox, or debating whether to self-host with Puppeteer or Playwright. Each comparison breaks down pricing, parameters, output formats, and the maintenance cost you'll actually deal with in production.
Self-hosted tools give you full control, but that control comes with a bill. You run the browser pool, patch security updates, handle font rendering across environments, and debug timeout issues at 3 AM. Hosted APIs remove all of that. The question is which one gives you the most for your money.
Why developers choose ScreenshotRun
Our free tier includes 200 screenshots per month with zero feature gating. Every parameter we offer — dark mode, ad blocking, stealth mode, geolocation, cookie control — works on the free plan. No credit card required. Most competitors lock their best features behind paid tiers or cap free usage at 100 requests with watermarks.
A single GET endpoint handles everything through 40+ parameters. You send one request, you get back a PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, or PDF. We also ship an MCP server for AI agents, which is something very few screenshot APIs offer today. If you're building automated workflows or AI-driven pipelines, that matters. Webhook delivery means you don't have to hold connections open for slow-rendering pages either. Fire the request, get the result pushed to your endpoint when it's ready.

Replacing deprecated tools
Several pages here cover tools that no longer receive updates. PhantomJS has been dead since 2018. The wkhtmltopdf repository is archived and carries known CVEs, so running it in production is a security risk. html2canvas works client-side only, which means it can't capture pages behind authentication or render content the user's browser hasn't loaded. If you're migrating off any of these, a hosted API is the straightforward replacement: one HTTP call, no local dependencies, no browser binaries to maintain. We wrote specific migration guides for each so the switch takes minutes, not days.
